Before and After -Part 2

It's been a couple of months since the last "Before and After" post. Things have been so busy, but I've been wanting to post something on my website and Instagram showing some editing. This time, I'm going to try some sliders. And, hopefully, they will display on mobile devices the same as they display on PC/Mac (as so many of my visitors are using mobile displays). *Just click the middle of a photo and slide to the left or right to reveal the entire picture.

This first one was a recent photo taken in Old Town Pocatello, ID. I took my son and his friend for a little "walkabout" to take some city photos. When I passed by this scene, I thought to myself, "This would look cool if it was night...with the street lamps lit." Unfortunately, it was mid-day and I couldn't wait around until night. Although over-cast, the original photo is just an ordinary and boring day photo. The "after" gives you an idea of how we can simulate night scenes and give those shots that we would normally toss, an interesting look.

This next one was taken close to Grace, ID in November 2018. I was in the area taking photos of the clouds hovering over the mountainside. After looking through some of the photos, I thought it would be cool to do a composite of a lake, made from one of the photos. As you can see, I replaced the field in the foreground completely with a lake reflection and added some birds.

This photo was taken in Idaho Falls, ID. I was driving home after taking my son to a tournament and noticed this magnificent tree with an eagle's nest (the Bald Eagle was nearby guarding the nest). The background with the street and cars took away from how I wanted the image to look. The final image was a combination of this one and two other photos that I had taken in the past, blended together with the magic of Photoshop.

This photo of a tree happened much the same way as the previous (people driving behind me must hate me, as I suddenly make turns when I see something cool). The man who owns this land came out to greet me when he saw me approaching his property. However, he was more than happy to let me photograph his tree.

In this photo, I mainly just removed distracting objects (like the houses and cars) to give this photo a unique abandoned look.

In this edit, I did some color grading in Lightroom to give it a pretty sunset look.

This next image was taken with a lensball during the winter in 2018 at Hooper Springs in Soda Springs, ID. I had my son hold the lensball, while I took photos (it's hard to hold a camera and the ball at the same). I wanted to create a "snow-globe" effect with the image. I ended up darkening it a bit because my son's hands looked torn up and I got tired of trying to fix them. I also added fog and snow in the "globe" using Photoshop and a lighting effect using Lightroom.

I think I'll end the post for today with this shot I took a few weeks ago near the Idaho/Utah border. Really, the only thing this photo needed was some color grading, straightening, removal of distractions and I played with the shadowing a bit (using Dodge/Burn in Lightroom). I also processed the image using Luminar and added a sun and rays above the hill.

Fun Fact: My workflow consists of, first every photo is imported and processed in Lightroom, then (if needed) I will use Photoshop and/or Luminar for creative edits or cosmetic repairs.

I hope to find time to make some video tutorials one day. I will also be offering photography and editing classes this Spring and Summer 2019. If you are interested in booking a class, please contact me (as of this writing I have not posted dates, yet). You can also see more edits by following my Instagram account @studiokampoc.

As always, thank you for your continued support!
